Sheet metal is an important division of the company’s business, and it is used in various application areas such as carpentry and the manufacture of folded products, but it is also supplied to important moulding and laser cutting companies for the production of automotive, industrial and agricultural vehicles.
Among other uses, they can also be used for the creation of structural profiles, shelving, plates, components for vending machines and machinery bodies.
SUBCATEGORIES
Sheet metal has a wide variety of applications in the carpentry and automotive industries, and it is also used for the manufacture of structural profiles, shelving, plates, components for vending machines and machine shells, etc. Fratubi provides flat, embossed and expanded sheet metal in varied materials such as Corten, Hardox and SSAB depending on the required application. All types of sheet metal are available as hot-dip or cold-dip galvanized, pickled, in strips, in reduced coils or in strips depending on quality.
Flat sheets are divided into two categories, namely, heavy plates and coils. The former are manufactured through hot-rolling on reversing rolling mills, leaving free deformation of the side edges. The final product is supplied at raw lamination state. For what concerns cold sheet metal, on the other hand, it is rolled into coils immediately after the final rolling pass or after pickling or annealing treatment (heat treatment), and subsequently flattened to give the flat product in standard or customised formats.
The coil qualities are: S235/S275/S355 for raw ones, S275/S355 for rolled ones; coil thicknesses range from 0.35 to 2mm for cold sheet metal, 1.5 to 5mm for raw and pickled sheet metal, up to a maximum of 20mm. Coil sizes range from 1000/1250/1500 mm width and, for some thicknesses, a 2000 mm width can also be provided. For widths up to 2500 m, we provide coils manufactured through rolling mills, whose thicknesses start at 6mm up to large thicknesses over 100mm on the market.
Embossed or checker sheet metal is made of raw iron. Embossing and checker qualities gives the sheet metal greater rigidity, anti-slip properties and greater crush resistance. It is used in the construction field, mainly for covering walkways, reinforcing walls and other vertical architectural elements, and also for transport and agricultural vehicles.
It is available from 3 mm thickness + embossing
We supply pickled and polished flat sheets, the former produced by pickling processes on raw coils and the latter by using a cold-rolling process in order to reduce their thickness. This product has excellent strength and a better surface finish.
Sheet metal that has undergone pickling treatment has a surface that has been cleaned of oxide and calamine residues, making it suitable for subsequent coating with cold-dip galvanising or painting. It also guarantees suitability for almost all welding processes. They are widely used in the automotive, furniture, design, mechanical engineering and electronics industries.
Cold-rolled and picked sheet metal in the form of strips has a peculiar resilience and ductility, and it is widely used in sectors where considerable pliability is required during bending and pressing operations. It has an excellent predisposition to surface treatments and it’s available in thicknesses from 0.35 to 2 mm in cold-rolled form, and from 1.5 to 5 mm in pickled form. The wide range also includes galvanized metal sheet products, available in various zinc coatings, from the basic Z100 to the most important coatings and the latest generation alloys, such as alluzinc, magnelis. The latest cutting-edge product is hot-dip galvanized coils, which offer higher corrosion resistance and higher durability. Galvanized coils go from DX51D to DX57D up until structural coils from S220GD to S550GD.
Apart from boasting good mechanical strength, Corten sheet metal’s main feature is its corrosion resistance. It is widely used in architecture, especially in interior design. Thanks to exposure to atmospheric agents, it is covered with a uniform and resistant coat, consisting of the oxides of its alloying elements (essentially copper), which prevents corrosion from spreading. Over the years, special paints have been developed to crystallise the corrosion of the material, to stop the oxidation process when the expected oxidation colour is achieved.
Wear-Resistant Sheet Metal is the most abrasion-resistant carbon steels in the world, and it is supplied by various manufacturers such as the renowned SSAB created by Hardox or others like Strenx and Veldox. This hard metal from surface to core offers a higher durability under special conditions of use. It is employed extensively in mechanical engineering, lifting equipment, machinery and large equipment, and for large construction projects.
The main feature of a galvanized sheet metal lies right in its galvanisation. In fact, various zinc coatings can be found on the market, measured in g/mm2, identified by the abbreviation Z + indicating the thickness of the zinc coating, which ranges from 100 to 725. It is a very versatile material that can be used in several contexts: for example, it is used for furniture, automotive, machinery and equipment. Galvanized sheet metal is used to obtain a quality product combined with resistance to oxidation. It is a product suitable and ready for subsequent painting. In the last decade, the demand for greater durability of zinc coatings has led the most important steel mills to study new galvanising methods, such as electro-galvanising and new aluminium-based alloys, such as alluzinc or alloying carbon steel with other alloys such as magnelis, producing coils named after the alloy with which the steel is combined with, up to the latest innovation, hot-dip galvanized coils.
